You can find one in\u00a0<\/span>Monroe<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Ypsilanti<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Holly<\/span><\/a>, each offering a variety of exceptional\u00a0amenities\u2014from miniature golf courses to grocery stores\u2014and hookups\u00a0all at\u00a0affordable\u00a0prices.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n

Parking on Public Land<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n
\nWhen driving a DIY recreational vehicle or other campers that don’t require electric, water or sewage hookups\u2014you may want to consider “boondocking” or staying on public land rather than at an RV park.\u00a0Not only is it completely free, but it\u00a0is often quieter and more peaceful than traditional campgrounds.\u00a0According to the\u00a0<\/span>Michigan Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a>, dispersed camping\u00a0is permitted on state-owned land but there are some stipulations. Campsites must not\u00a0be located in\u00a0a designated state park, recreation area, rustic state forest campground or game area.\u00a0And campsites must be located more than\u00a01\u00a0mile from any rustic state forest campground.\u00a0It also must not\u00a0be located in\u00a0an area or property marked with “No Camping” signs.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nIf you do find a spot that is within those rules, a camp registration card must be prominently displayed at your campsite.\u00a0You can download one\u00a0<\/span>here<\/span><\/a>!\u00a0The best way to determine\u00a0whether or not\u00a0your campsite falls within these categories is by\u00a0visiting\u00a0<\/span>this map of state forest boundaries and state forest campgrounds\u00a0from the Michigan DNR<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and using the measurement tool to\u00a0check how far that site is from any rustic state forest campgrounds.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nFor\u00a0more\u00a0free camping\u00a0options, many full-time\u00a0boondockers\u00a0highly recommend taking advantage of rest areas, Cabela’s\u00a0parking lots, Bass Pro Shops’\u00a0parking lots, select\u00a0Walmart parking lots,\u00a0and truck stops.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
